Art Work > Studio

In the 1890's Frederick Church travelled to Greenland and saw icebergs. He made drawings and back in his studio painted. The public was alarmed at the stark nature of the geography without a human, so he later added a boat's masthead.

I found this book of his sketches in black and white at the Strand bookstore and have been working from Church's studies. My idea is to commemorate the great icebergs that are now melting and our Hudson Valley painter of beauty and nature.
